About Us
St.Xavier College of Education situated at 45, Karuppur, near Marudhanallur about 3 kilometers from Kumbakonam, the Taluk Headquarters of Thanjavur District was established in the year of 2005 with 100 students of B.Ed., It is a self financing college, affiliated to the Tamilnadu Teachers Education University, Chennai and approved by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) Bangalore, with NOC of Tamilnadu Government to conduct the B.Ed and M.Ed courses. The College has been accredited by NACC with ‘B’ Grade in September 15, 2012.
The minimum qualification required to join the B.Ed., course is B.A./B.Sc./B.Lit/M.A./M.Sc. The B.Ed Degree course is a two year teacher training program and the trainees are trained to teach in High and Higher Secondary Schools. The trainees are given good opportunity to observe and practise teaching in various schools. An all-round personality development is also incorporated into the course curriculum with socially useful productive work, Arts and Crafts, citizenship camps, field trip, etc. St.Xavier College of Education has a motto that says,
“Service to Humanity Glorifies God”.
True to its motto, the College trains its students to become true and noble teachers who dedicate their service to the society. The rural poor students are getting a chance to get trained as teachers. They are fully equipped and are eager to go back to their native villages and teach in their village schools. Almost all of them get placements in well-established schools through campus interviews. Thus their desire to serve God and man is fulfilled.
St.Xavier College of Education is the brain child of a Roman Catholic Priest Rev. Fr. A. Savarimuthu, the Founder and Director who is totally committed to the cause of education from his young age. As the Founder of this Institution he excels in planning all the projects which he is able to run. For this purpose he has formed this Trust. With three Ph.D. Degree to his credit, he is a Great Teacher himself having served in many foreign Universities.
At heart he is a Philanthropist educating the poor, the Deaf the Disabled and the Blind in five of his Institutions. Even the stair case to every room in every floor is so designed to help the differently abled move with ease. The Correspondent, Mr.I.Maria Selvam, a gentle and hard worker, is an able Administrator. In the midst of his busy schedule he takes care to participate in many of the activities of all the Institutions. Thus he shows his keen and genuine interest in all the institutions. This college of education has a team of well qualified and dedicated professors headed by an able and experienced Principal Dr.M.Muruganantham.
Discipline is the foundation of our college. The college edifice rests on this. Education then comes in handy; Education is imparted here with a teacher-pupil ratio of 1:8.
Students are able to record their needs and ideas and also find remedies for them. The selfless teachers guide the students properly. They in turn chisel their dream of bright future with a different perspective. “Teaching is not a daily job; It is life’s gift”.
The Professors are trained in improving their educational skill, teaching ability and their self-initiative. Just teaching the subjects and making the students by heart the matter and get through the examinations is not our assignment. Our goal is to shape them into efficient teachers.
Whatever be the program or event either by the students or by the college management, that should not exceed a time limit of 1 hour. This is an unwritten law in our campus.
